Spirit of Cricket!

It was a great series played in a very good cricketing spirit by both the teams, except the disappointing 5th ODI. It was a superb series. Both the teams showed their class. This series proved one thing that 300+ scores are not safe anymore, even 350+ is not safe.

We saw in the first match of the series how Sri Lanka nearly chased down a mammoth 414 scored by India and they lost it by just 3 runs. Then, in the second match, India lost even after making 301. Sri Lanka started off brilliantly in the third ODI and they had reached 50 runs in less than 4 overs and were placed comfortably on 163-1. It looked like that they are going to make 400 again but then the big collapse started and their innings finished on 239. Ravindra Jadeja took 4 wickets in this match and aroused as a match winner.

India chased down 316 runs target successfully in the fourth match with 11 balls left. We saw an aggressive captain like Sehwag after Dhoni got banned for 2 matches because of the slow over-rate. Sehwag won both the matches in his captaincy and India won the series in the absence of their main players like Yuvraj and Dhoni.

Then we saw the arrival of youngsters like Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. Kohli did a good job and was involved in a brilliant partnership with Gambhir, no one expected it. This series was a good comeback for Nehra, who played for India after 4 years. It was a complete team work by Team India, they played like an unit, every single player contributed in this series win. There were some great knocks by Sehwag, Dhoni, Tendulkar,Gambhir and Kohli.

Sri Lanka showed a great character too. Dilshan was awesome throughout the series. Then there were youngsters like Tharanga, Matthews and Kandamby. Sangakkara looked in excellent form too. Sri Lanka batted well throughout the series. They missed the services of player like Murlidharan.

Then they battled for 24 overs on an under prepared pitch at Firoze Shah Kotla. It had uneven bounce and some of the Sri Lankan players got injured too. It showed the character of the players. It was a right move by the Officials to call-off the match. This kind of pitch doesn't even suit gully cricket. Great player like Sunil Gavaskar told that the pitch was unplayable even before the match started, when he was doing the pitch report. It is a good move by ICC to ban Kotla for 18 months. It means there will not be any World Cup matches too.

It was an exciting series, where we saw some great shots, some great innings and some great matches. Spectators were clapping for the shots hit by both the sides.

It was a great year for Team India. Hoping that Team India will continue their great run in the next year too. Best of luck to them. Wish you all a very Happy New Year ahead...!
