Final Phobia!

Kumar Sangakkara and Suraj Randiv pose with the trophy after Sri Lanka beat India by four wickets.

It was the first cricket series of the year for Team India. It was a triangular series where Bangladesh and Sri Lanka also participated. Bangladesh hosted the tournament. Bangladesh showed great improvement in their game especially there batsmen performed well. They didn't win any matches in the series but there was some improvement for sure. As expected, India and Sri Lanka entered the finals with 3 wins each and both lost 1 match against each other in the league stage.

Sri Lanka played superb cricket in the series. Youngsters like Randiv, Welegedra and Perera continued to impress. Then experienced players like Dilshan, Jayawardene and Sangakkara played excellently. Jayawardene was the man who guided Sri Lanka towards the victory in the finals. They took the revenge from Team India for their recent series loss in India. It was an excellent all round performance by Sri Lanka to clinch the series. They deserved it. Kumar Sangakkara led the team brilliantly and scored runs with bat too. He led from front and was declared the Man of the series.

Team India entered the finals after some superb performance in the series but they lost the finals. The Final phobia continues. We all are very familiar to this. They are still unable to play well in a pressure game. If they want to be No.1 side in the limited overs cricket then they must learn to perform well in big games and tournaments.

There were some great performances in the series. New star Virat Kohli born in this series. He scored msot runs in the series. Indian batting was excellent throughout the series but when it really mattered in the finals they failed. Actually, Indian batsmen threw their wickets away by some poor shot selections. Top 5 batsmen played loose shots and lost their wickets. Raina’s fighting knock of 106 helped India to reach a respectable total.

Bowling was not that good in the series but they bowled well in the finals. Nehra’s injury during his second over hurt India more in the finals after they had set a modest target of 246. He was looking in good form and swinging the ball. Indian spinners specially Harbhajan bowled well and brought Team India back in the contest. There wasn't that much dew on the field, so they were gripping the ball well. But they lost the game in the first 10 overs, when they were batting.

There were some positives for Team India in this series. Kohli is maturing quickly, they have found a good fast bowler in Sudeep Tyagi, Amit Mishra performed well, Karthik, Raina and Jadeja are doing good too. Now, Team India will play a Test series against Bangladesh starting from 17th January.
